STUDENT MOBILIZATION COMMITTEE
The first National Demonstration Against the War
was held on OCTOBER 21, 1967. Backed by
demonstrations around the nation, 100,000 protesters
came to Washington, DC, brought there by the Student
Mobilization
Committee. We announced that anti-war
protesters would march to the Lincoln Memorial, across
the Memorial Bridge to the steps of the Pentagon. Once
at the Pentagon,we would encircle it, try to levitate it,
and then storm it and "bring the Military-Industrial Complex
to its knees. Our friend and fellow activist, ABBIE HOFFMAN,
concocted the
entire thing. The government,
in its
usual brilliance, believed
every word.
Military police
encircled the Pentagon, 300
U.S. Deputy Marshals
backed them up. Inside the building
were
6,000 army troops with rifles and bayonets. Needless
to say, Abbie and the YIPPIES "faked out"
the U.S.
Government again.
with the tale of levitation.
This button was worn that
day
Looking at January 6, 2021 and the total lack of
protection for government buildings, people must
wonder why there was such a large response from
the government back then and none in 2021.
The button colors are black on BRIGHT YELLOW.
