AMERICAN WAY (PFAW)
was founded in 1981
by
Norman Lear,
the late Congresswoman
Barbara Jordan
,
and a group of business, civic, religious, and
civil rights leaders who were disturbed by the
divisive rhetoric of newly politicized televangelists.
This button, made for the PFAW by Fox Buttons in
1981, was used as part of the campaign by Lear and
his associates along with PFAW members for:
-EQUALITY FOR ALL
-FIGHTING THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT
-RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
-FAIR AND JUST COURTS
-FREEDOM OF SPEECH
-THE RIGHT TO VOTE
Although the campaign was started in 1981,
the fight has continued against
Citizens United. Money in Politics,
and the
increase in hate crimes.
Working for Progressive Values has been the
