Description
REDUCED; MUSEUM QUALITY TELESCOPE! Very rare portable telescope from the late 18th
century. Reflecting brass telescope, number 94, made in the Netherlands around 1770 by Lubbertus van der Bildt in Franeker (which is located in the province of Friesland). This instrument is in very good condition; it still has all its mirrors and lenses. It is a so-called “Gregorian telescope” named after its 17
th
-century inventor, James Gregory from Scotland. Inside the brass barrel are the primary and secondary specula (mirrors, see illustrations). Focusing is done by moving the small mirror by means of a screw rod, attached to the barrel. The telescopes from Lubbertus, and his father Jan (see contemporary painting), were quite popular in Europe. Shipping and insurance expenses to be agreed by both parties. NOTE: this item can only be shipped after November 4. Sorry for the inconvenience.
