Description
Here is a matching pair of stadium seat cushions that each measure about 14 1/2" by 14 1/2" (at their widest points) and a little over 2" thick. These were made shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. who (along with the SCLC) organized the Poor People's Campaign. After MLK's death the campaign evolved into the Poor People's March on Washington. This lasted for 6 weeks in the Spring of 1968 where a 3000 person protest camp was set up on the Washington Mall. I think these 2 seat cushions may have been given away to participants at the protest camp in Washington, DC. I've had posters from this campaign (post assassination) that have still sold in the mid 0s range. Online I found several posters but no seat cushions from this event therefore I assume they are probably rare. One cushion has minor tears on the vinyl on or near each corner. The other cushion only shows a couple minor tears (front & back) near the bottom right corner. Along the edge on the reverse side are about the only other tears on the vinyl. These are just a couple or so very small holes that are not very noticeable since they're on the reverse side. The original hangers (attached to the top right corner of each cushion) are still intact but a little brittle looking. Fortunately away from the edges these cushions still look nice and show little wear. The designs on the fronts only show minor wear and have no cracks or repairs or other serious issues. They look nice considering they've been sat upon a few times.Any overly bright white spots are just glare/reflections from the light.
