This antique set of tobacco silks were recently acquired at an estate auction of a longtime collector in Western Illinois. It is appealing, desirable, & collectible.
These textiles are from a series of premium tobacco silks containing half-length portraits of prominent Native American chiefs. Included in the collection are colorful depictions of Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Keokuk, Striker, Noon Day, White Swan, Clam Fish, Lean Wolf, British, Red Cloud, Chief Joseph, & Big Razor. The large silk in the center is unnamed. All are shown with traditional feather head pieces. Each color relief on textile measures approximately; 3.25" x 2". The large center tobacco textile measures approximately; 5.5"x 3.75".
Housed in an ornate & beautifully carved Tramp Art frame certainly adds to the rarity, desirability, & appeal of this set of tobacco silks.
We present this piece exactly as it was when acquired. No attempts to clean this item have been made.
There is wear which can bee seen in the photos. These issues do not detract from the overall presentation of this item. This will make a great addition to any home or collection.
