Description

1880-92 Cigarette Tobacco Card Between the Acts Series, Featuring Bella Pateman. It features a fantastic, lithographic illustration of an elegant young actress with barrel curls and an elegant hat and exquisite clothing from the Elizabethan period. The very bottom border of the card in very tiny letters reads "Litho. of Heppenheimer & Mauer, 22 & 24 N. Wm. St., N.Y." This trade card comes from the set "actors and actresses" (N342). The back of the card also has a very decorative design, and gives the information for "Between the Acts Cigarettes" and the manufacturer. The card is very good condition, with a bit of minor wear on the corners, and some soiling on the back of the card. The card is bright and vibrant and and very attractive.

Fantastic and rare, "1880-92 Cigarette Tobacco Card Between the Acts Series, Featuring Bella Pateman."  It features a fantastic, lithographic illustration of an elegant young actress with barrel curls and an elegant hat and exquisite clothing from the Elizabethan period
The card measures approx. 1-1/2" x 3" (7.7 cm x 4 cm.) The very bottom border of the card int very tiny letters reads "Litho. of Heppenheimer & Mauer, 22 & 24 N. Wm. St., N.Y." This trade card comes from the set "actors and actresses" (N342).
The back of the card also has a very decorative design, and gives the information for "Between the Acts Cigarettes" and the manufacturer.
This rare and wonderful, "Premium Card for Bella Pateman" is very good condition, with a bit of minor wear on the corners, and some soiling on the back of the card.  The card is bright and vibrant and and very attractive.
Bella Pateman
(1841-1924) was an English-born actress.  She came to the came to the United States at 28 years old to play the burlesque "Robinson Crusoe" at Wood's Museum in New York. She toured the circuits, but eventually wangled a place in the troupe at Booth's Theatre in New York. There she began to show her dramatic range when she opted to play the villainess Madame Marco in 1871's "Marble Heart." She began playing opposite Edwin Booth in Shakespeare at Booth's, and this partnership would enjoy periodic renewals. Pateman though felt she was not appreciated among New York’s critics, so 1873 she headed to California, where she asserted herself as the major actress.  She was the toast of the city. Sufficiently bouyed with her fame, she partnered with Booth to form a touring company. Back in California Pateman refined her art in roles such as Lady Macbeth and Juliet. In spring of 1876 she returned to Europe, married, and established her reputation on the London stage, playing for four seasons before returning to America to partner with Edwin Booth once again in autumn of 1881.  Her career remained vital until 1902.
Individual cards from this series featured famous actresses and were premiums given with packages of "Between the Acts and Bravo" cigarettes produced by Thomas H. Hall. Between 1882-1892.  Even in the 1880's marketers knew that an attractive lady makes good ad copy and sells more product.

Priority Mail International (Flat Rate) -Delivery can take 10-12 days business.
Very seldom a package will get "stuck" in customs for as much as
a month
.  Please be patient.
We mail all packages in a timely manner. But a
delivery time can not be guaranteed, since the delivery is accomplished through the postal services of two countries, AND the package must be inspected by your country's Customs Department, before being delivered to you.
